2015-2016

1. Participation of Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology in the Dialogue on Climate Smart Development & Green Adda on “Climate Smart Kolkata” 11.00 a.m. onwards on 10th February 2016 at The Park Hotel, Kolkata.

2. Participation of B.Sc. Geology Honours First Year students (session 2015-18) accompanied by Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology in 1-day Seminar on the occasion of the World Water Day on the theme "Water & Jobs" at the Lincoln Room, American Centre, 38A Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Kolkata-700071 on 22nd March, 2016 from 9:30 AM – 5.00 PM.

3. Participation of B.Sc. Geology Honours First Year students (session 2015-18) accompanied by Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology in 1-day Seminar on the occasion of the World Water Day on the theme "Water & Jobs" at the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BNCCI), 23, R. N. Mukherjee Road, Kolkata-700001 on 22nd March, 2016 from 3:00 PM onwards.

4. Participation of B.Sc. Geology Honours First Year students (session 2015-18) accompanied by Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology in the day long Conference on “Sustainable Development and Management of Ground Water Resources, its Remedial Measures for Emerging Crisis and Climate Change in West Bengal” on 28.03.2016 at Rabindra Tirtha, New Town, Kolkata-700156 in connection with Jal Kranti Abhiyan 2015-16; Presentation of Paper by Dr. S. Chakrabarti.

5. Special Orientation Lecture-Series arranged successively on different dates for motivating students in field and laboratory techniques of Geology by Dr. Sudipta Lahiri, Former Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India (GSI), North-Eastern Region, Shillong.

6. Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology delivered the first seminar talk as a part of in-house Lecture Series for Quality Improvement of teachers on “Our Imperiled Environment: The Exemplar of Fluoride Pollution in Purulia District, West Bengal” on 05th April, 2016.

2016-2017

1. Participation B.Sc. Geology Honours First Year students (session 2016-19) accompanied by Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology in 1-day Annual Environment and Energy Conclave (9th Edition) on the theme “The Energy Climate Synergy – India’s Clean Energy Realities” at ITC-Sonar, Kolkata on 25th August, 2016  from 10:00 AM – 5.30 PM.

2. Participation of B.Sc. Geology Honours First Year students (session 2016-19) accompanied by Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology in the 1-Day “National Seminar on “Smart Cities Mission – Prospects and Challenges“ on 20.08.2016  at Institute of Public Health Engineers (IPHE) Auditorium, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700091 organized by IPHE Kolkata Centre in association with IPHE, India.

3.  Participation of B.Sc. Geology Honours First Year students (session 2016-19) accompanied by Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology in 1-Day Conference on “Groundwater Resource Management Issues In View Of Climatic Change In West Bengal, Sikkim & Andaman & Nicobar Islands” on 21st March, 2017 from 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM at Vidyasagar Auditorium, Barasat Municipality, Rishi Bankim Chandra Road, Gupta Colony,  Barasat, Kolkata, West Bengal 700124  in connection with Jal Kranti Abhiyan 2016-17.

4. Participation of B.Sc. Geology Honours First Year students (session 2016-19) accompanied by Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology in 1-day Seminar on World Water Day on the theme "Wastewater" held at Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BNCCI) premises, 23, R. N. Mukherjee Road, Kolkata-700001 on 22nd March, 2017 from 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM.

Special Orientation Lecture-Series arranged successively on different dates for motivating students in field and laboratory techniques of Geology by Dr. Sudipta Lahiri, Former Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India (GSI), North-Eastern Region, Shillong from November, 2016 to February, 2017.

6. Special Lecture-Series on Petrology and Microscopic Thin Section Studies arranged successively on different dates for motivating students in advanced theoretical knowledge and laboratory techniques of Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology by Dr. Chitta Bhattacharya, D.Sc., Former Professor and Head, Department of Geology, University of Calcutta from February, 2017.

7. Special Hands-on Training Modules on Petrology and Microscopic Thin Section Studies arranged successively on different dates for motivating students in practical applicability of Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology by Ms. Ankita Basak, M.Sc., NET, Ph.D. Scholar, Department of Geology, University of Calcutta as part of her Ph.D. Classroom Teaching Programme from January, 2017.

8. Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology was nominated as the Judge by the Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), Eastern Region, Kolkata, Govt. of India for Essay Competition of school students of Secondary (Class-X) and Higher Secondary (Class-XII) standards covering 4 States of Orissa, Sikkim, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 15th March, 18th March, 22nd March, and 28th March, 2017.

9. Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology delivered his second seminar talk on “Water Literacy” on 28th March, 2017 at college as a part of inauguration of the National Social Service (NSS) Scheme unit in college for Quality Improvement of NSS students.

2017-2018

1.  Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology was nominated as Member of the Organizing Committee in the 1-day seminar on “Swacch Bharat and Nirmal Ganga : India’s twin Challenges on Environment and Sustainability” organized by the State Institute of Education for Women, Hastings House, Kolkata on 29th March, 2017.

2. Participation of BSc (2nd Year Geology Hons.) in the 1-Day National Conference on “Sustainable Technologies to Connect People with Nature” organized by Vivekananda Institute of Environment & Management (VIEM) jointly with CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) at CGCRI Auditorium, Jadavpur, Kolkata on 9th June, 2017.

3. Participation of Geology (Hons.) and Geology (General) students in the 1-day Interactive Seminar-cum-Quizz contest organized by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), Kolkata Chapter, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India  on 4th August, 2017.

4. Participation of B.Sc. (1st Year Geology Hons.) and B.Sc. (1st Year Geology General) students in 1-day National Seminar on “Namami Ganga Yojna: A Challenge to Clean & Rejuvenate the River” held at Mahanayak Mancha, Unnayan Bhawan, KMDA on 19th August, 2017.

5. Special Lecture-Series on Petrology and Microscopic Thin Section Studies arranged successively on different dates for motivating students in advanced theoretical knowledge and laboratory techniques of Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology by Dr. Chittaranjan Bhattacharya, D.Sc., Former Professor and Head, Department of Geology, University of Calcutta from February, 2018.

6. Participation of B.Sc. (2nd Year Geology Hons.) in 3-day Celebration on the occasion of 168th Foundation Day ceremony of Geological Survey of India (GSI) at the Central Head Quarters, GSI, Kolkata from 4th to 6th March 2018. The 3rd Year Geology Hons. students participated in Inter-College/University Quizz contest held on this occasion.

7.  Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology was invited to the World Water Day-2018 celebration jointly organized by Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Water Resources Investigation and Development Department , Govt. of W.B. & National Academy of Sciences India (NASI), Kolkata Chapter held at the Chamber premises  on 22nd March, 2018.

8. Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology was nominated as the Judge by the Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), Eastern Region, Kolkata, Govt. of India for Essay Competition of students of Secondary (Class-X) and Higher Secondary (Class-XII) standards covering 4 States of Orissa, Sikkim, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 26th February and 22nd March, 2018.

9. Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology was nominated as Member of Organizing Committee in the 2-day Brain Storming Session on “Water Resources of Eastern (West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand) and North-Eastern States of India” at CSIR-CGCRI, KOLKATA organized by Centre for Ground Water Studies, Kolkata in association with Geological Society of India, Bangalore on 8th & 9th June, 2018. Dr. Sohini Roy, Assistant Professor, Department of Geology also attended as a registered delegate.

10. Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology has been awarded a Major Research Project funded by PHED, GoWB on “Design, Development and Field Performance Evaluation of Hand Pump Attached Fluoride Removal Water Filter Units Using Novel Nanostructured Materials: A Lab-To-Field Nanotechnology Transfer and Scale-up Programme (Phase-II)” with a sanctioned grant of Rs. 9.86 lakh.

11. Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology has been awarded a Major Research Project funded by Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India on “Study of Isotopic Signatures to Assess Water Pollution in Mosabani Mining-Smelter Complex, Jharkhand” with a sanctioned grant of Rs. 21.18 lakh.

12. Ms. Susnata Ray, Research Scholar of Department of Geology has been registered for Ph.D. in the Department of Physiology, Kalyani University jointly under Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology, SNGGDCG and Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Paul, Former Dean (Science), Kalyani University.

13. Dr. S. Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Geology has been awarded a Major Research Project funded by PHED, GoWB on “Water Supply Arrangement Through Installation of Fluoride Removal Units as Attachments to 17 (Seventeen) nos. of Hand Pump Tube Wells at Schools and Anganwadi centres affected with Fluoride Contamination; Block Gangarampur, District Dakshin Dinajpur” with a sanctioned grant of Rs. 27.47 lakh.
