Activities
From the very beginning of the College, the Department of Bengali organized various cultural program for students to encourage and motivate their co-curricular activities throughout the academic year.
- On 6th December, 2016, the Department of Bengali, in collaboration with the Department of English, Philosophy, Political Science and Sanskrit organized a UGC-sponsored State Level Seminar on ‘Women’s Empowerment and Higher Learning’ in the college.
- On 21st February, 2018, our department celebrated International Mother Language Day to develop better understanding of Language and Literature.
- Inspired by the Principal of our college, Department of Bengali took an initiative to organize a workshop on creative writing of short stories on 19th February, 2018. This workshop encouraged the students to develop their skill and enrich their writing skill in the creative writing field.
- On 16th January,2019, a departmental seminar was organized by our department on ‘Magic Realism: Impact on literature’ for better understanding the theory of literature. Dr. Sumita Chakraborty, Eminent Professor of The University of Burdwan gave her valuable speech on this day.
- On 21st February, 2019, our department celebrated International Mother Language Day to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The speakers, Dr. Arindam Goswami and Dr. Indrani Goswami delivered their lectures on the importance of preserving linguistic diversity.
- Our department arranged an Educational Tour to Jorasanko on 5th April, 2019 to provide students with a firsthand experience of life, legacy and cultural contributions of Rabindranath Tagore and his family and also enhance for understanding of Bengal’s Renaissance and beyond.
- Our students created a colorful nice poster on the occasion of birthday celebration of Rabindranath Tagore and Satyajit Ray. The celebrations emphasized Tagore’s literary contribution and Satyajit Ray’s contribution to Indian Cinema, literature and the visual arts.
- Baishe Srabon is a day dedicated to paying respect and gratitude to Rabindranath Tagore for his significant contributions to literature, philosophy, and society. Our department also celebrated this day on 7th August,2019. Our students performed dance drama program, ‘The Chandalika’. We try to involve the students in performing the drama and reciting poems.
- On 24th September, 2019, our department organized a departmental seminar on Bengali Little Magazine. The eminent speaker was Sandip Dutta, founder of Kolkata Little Magazine Library O Gabeshana Kendra.
- On 21st February, 2020, our department celebrated International Mother Language Day to emphasize the importance of mother tongue.
- Our department arranged an Educational Tour to Bratachari gram on 3rd March, 2020 for fostering spiritual and holistic development through a combination of physical activities, arts, social service, and promoting national awareness and a sense of community. This educational tour sought to instill values of discipline, patriotism, and social responsibility.
- Rabindra Jayanti and Baishe Shrabon were organized by the Department of Bengali on 8th May,2020 and 7th August 2020 through online mode due to Covid 19 pandemic.
- Our department also organized Rabindra Jayanti on 8th May, 2021 through online mode. Students participating enthusiastically in this program enhanced their learning experiences and overall development.
- On 21st February, 2022, our department celebrated International Mother Language Day.
- On 8th May, 2022 our college successfully celebrated Women’s Day. Our department participated in this program.
- Our students performed a dance performance, ‘Nari Tumi Ordhek Akash’.
- Our students actively participate in various competitions (like pre puja celebration), cultural program (AURA) and various programs (Teacher’s Day celebration).
- On 21st February, 2023, our department celebrated International Mother Language Day in collaboration with NSS unit of our college.
- On 11th March, 2023 our college organized a program on Women’s Day Celebration. Our department participated in this program. The speaker was the eminent writer, Yashodhara Ray Chaudhury.
- On 3rd May,2023 in Rabindra Jayanti students of our Bengali Department performed ‘Chitrangada’ which is known for its portrayal of feminine power and self-discovery through Indian dance and also performed a drama ‘Totakahini’ that critiques the traditional education system.
- On 8th August 2023, our students participated in Baishe Sharbon programme. On this day, our department organized tree planting program. This event connected the students to the benefits of trees and fostered environmental sensitivity in them.
- Our department observed the 204th Birth Anniversary of educationist and social activist, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. Students actively participated in this program. A wall magazine named as ‘Sagartire’ was published on 26th September, 2023. This wall magazine was inaugurated by our OIC Dr. Sebanti Bhattacharya.
- Every year our students celebrate 5th September to honour teachers and commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a prominent philosopher and the second President of India.
- On 21st February, 2024, our department celebrated linguistic and cultural diversity as it observed International Mother Language Day in collaboration with NSS unit of our college.
- The students of our Bengali Department commemorated one hundred years of Abol Tabol by exploring various aspects of this literary gem on 14th March,2024. They published a wall-magazine- Abol Tabol 100. In this magazine, the students showcased how the five senses and human responses to them, are explored in the different poems in Abol Tabol. It was prepared by the students of our department. This wall magazine was inaugurated by our OIC Dr. Sebanti Bhattacharya. All the respected teachers were present at the moment.
- On 2nd April,2024 our department organized a departmental seminar on History of Literature: Eastern and Western. Professor Manidipa Das delivered a valuable speech on this topic. All students attended the seminar.
- Baishe Shrabon, observed On 7th August is the death anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. Our department organized this program to pay homage to Biswakabi Rabindranath on 7th August, 2024.
- On 26th September, 2024 our department organized a program titled Commemorating the Birth Anniversary of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar through posters, wall magazine, paintings, poems & life stories. The wall magazine ‘Sagartire’ (2nd issue) was inaugurated by our OIC Dr. Sebanti Bhattacharya. This program provides a space for reflection on Vidyasagar's impact on society and the ongoing relevance of his ideas.
