Past college details
Research Experience :
5 years
Research Project Completed:
Assessment of environmental stress through study of Polytene Chromosomes of chiromid larvae in aquatic habitats, funded by UGC Minor Project PSW-070/11-12, sanctioned amount Rs-1,87,000, duration: 2 years
Research Interest :
Study of polytene chromosomes of Chironomid midges. Chironomid larva are grown in water. They posses polytene chromosome in their salivary glands. Polytene chromosomes are also called giant chromosomes. They are 28 to 214 times larger than metaphase chromosome. As polytene chromosomes are cytological manifestation of genetic organisation, study of polytene chromosome could reveal organism’s response to the environment. So, by studying polytene chromosome water pollution can be determined at chromosomal level.
