Department of Geography

Department of Geography started its journey with seven students from the academic session 2015-16 under Calcutta university with the introduction of both honours and general courses. The department has maximum student strength of the college. From the very beginning, the department is improving the academic standard and the performance of the students. The department is well-equipped with learning resources and various facilities like well-equipped laboratory, computer facilities, necessary infrastructure to meet academic demands of the students. Remote Sensing & GIS facilities with 21st century software are ready for the students so that they can have access to the most updated knowledge of Geography. This will empower them to peruse higher studies directly or indirectly related to Geography. The major activities of the department are regular class work, internal assessment, yearly test, remedial classes for all students (both theory and practical) GIS practice on regular basis, field study and syllabus oriented topic based class seminar.  The department encourage the students to participate poster presentation, seminars, projects, fieldwork excursion to acquire geographical knowledge from the real experience. The department has a well-stocked books for regular use of the students. The modern teaching method with the aid of projectors to provide audio-visual inputs have been practice in the department. The department encourage the students to participate in the annual sports, annual function, different programme of the college, the students’ performance in these fields are remarkably good. Students are also interested and participated in the NSS unit of the college.   The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in research work and also published research articles in reputed journals on regular basis.
